“Hot can be cool, and cool can be hot, and each can be both. But hot or cool, man, jazz is jazz.”- Louis Armstrong
Pierre Poree - Reeds & Vocals
Pierre hails from the jazz capital of the world, New Orleans, LA. Pierre began playing when he was 10 years old and decided then and there to make music his life's work. A master vocalist, Pierre derived much musical inspiration from the great Stevie Wonder. As a result, in addition to playing fine sax and clarinet, Pierre's vocal styling can move and captivate an audience like few others. Pierre's versatility and ability to perform in multiple genres lends a welcome added musical dimension to the Mission City Hot Rhythm Cats.
While still in New Orleans, Pierre led a very busy life as a performer, as well as a Middle School band director. As an in-demand freelance performer in New Orleans, Pierre was an established fixture with bands of various sizes at world famous restaurants like Arnaud's, Mr. B's Bistro and Commander's Palace.
After the mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Katrina, Pierre, his wife, 3 sons, 2 dogs and several in-laws headed to San Antonio, TX at the suggestion of their 4th son. Not surprisingly, Pierre went on to established himself as one of the busiest jazz musicians in San Antonio. In fact, Pierre started to receive bookings for engagements just four days after his arrival in San Antonio and has been working three to four nights a week ever since. Pierre also teaches private lessons at area music stores, as well as several schools within the Northside Independent School District of San Antonio.
Pierre and his wife were so impressed with the friendly people here in Texas, that they decided to make San Antonio their home.
